Once I got the shipping notice, it only took about a week to arrive and was packaged air tight. I need to go back and investigate that at some point but with family members using the network around the clock, it’s going to be a It took Topton about a month and a half to actually ship the N6005 model. I tried OPNsense (passing the NICs through) and had some issues with the WAN interface losing link when direct connected to my FiOS ONT that I don’t have with pfsense. With C-states enabled, that increases to ~1.2ms (if the network is idle – increased traffic reduces the ping time due to the CPU not having to wake up). With pfsense running as a Proxmox guest using PCIe passthrough, pinging the LAN interface with C-states disabled (in my network setup) results in a ping time of just shy of 0.2ms. I am running Proxmox on it with pfsense and the unit typically expends 13.3W with 3 of the NICs connected If you enable C-states, this is further reduced to 9.7W. That said, I went through 3 kits of 2×16 modules before I found one that would work without crashing in strange ways. Even though Intel Ark says the N6005 supports a maximum of 16GB, I’ve got 2x16GB Samsung 2400MHz modules in mine and it is working well. I picked up the barebones N6005 for $276. You will find the same units sold between King Novy and Topton, often listed multiple times at multiple price points. Looking through AliExpress is an interesting experience. The single difference that I’ve been able to spot is that my case is black, not grey. I refuse to use PFSense or any of those other pre-packaged distros I purchased a Topton unit with the N6005 and it looks *exactly* like your King Novy model. I use OpenBSD exclusively, but now that ISP’s are offering speeds surpassing 10Mb/s in my region I find that OpenBSD is a little anemic and not upto the task of 1Gb/s connections. I love these little boxes as edge devices that I resell to homes and small businesses. Maybe the Intel spec of 16GB of RAM has some validity. Compare results of a single stick of RAM to both. Please fill the niche that Anand created.

I check your site 20+ times a day, I can wait for in-depth content. Please spend the time to do more detailed test that are relevant to the product, I promise to not complain about lack of content. Linux: debain-based and red hat-based linux iperf tests. I appreciate the iperf network tests, but would like to see a broader panel of tests.
AMERICAN MEGATRENDS BIOS UPDATE 5.19 PLUS
I was looking into one of these models before deciding on an HP730 plus an 4-port Intel i350 NIC. Next, let us get to power consumption, noise, and our final words.
AMERICAN MEGATRENDS BIOS UPDATE 5.19 WINDOWS
We did not get a chance to try Windows 11. We also installed Ubuntu 22.04 and it worked as well, but that is expected at this point. Topton N5105 4x Intel I225 V Proxmox VE Dashboard We also installed Proxmox VE 7.2 and this worked as we saw in the J4125 unit. Topton N5105 PfSense Installer 4x Intel I225 V

Intel mostly focused its efforts on Linux and Windows support for the NIC.

The pfSense folks were the ones who got the Intel i225-V driver into FreeBSD so if you are using a newer pfSense it will work and other platforms can benefit from that work as well. We installed both pfSense and OPNsense without issue again.

Topton N5105 4x 2.5GbE Firewall Overclocking BIOS One interesting item in the BIOS was the “OverClocking Performance Menu” we did not do this because I did not want to mess up a review unit that took a long time to arrive, but it is something that certainly I thought was interesting in the fanless Atom system. Topton N5105 BIOS Power On After Power Loss Especially if you are going to use this as a router/ firewall, I would strongly suggest setting this to Always On so that in the event of a power failure, it will reboot and restore network connectivity. One item I wish was different was that the Power On over Power Loss was set to off. In terms of BIOS, we get American Megatrends BIOS in our unit with a relatively recent firmware.
